I swore when George W. Bush was ‘elected’ the second time that I would do whatever it took to destroy him and what he stands for and all those who stand with him; no matter how long it took.
Big talk you say. Yes, that it is. But I am sincere in my opposition to George W. Bush and his ‘compassionate conservatism’. Do you remember that? Hard to imagine the vicious sociopath we have as our President today ever saying that is it not? Yet, he ran on that theme in 2000. He lied as people of sense and intelligence who were paying attention knew he was at the time.
On the ‘About you page…’ of this blog is the following quote:
‘We in America do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate.’
This as they say ‘the money quote’ for this blog. Understand that I am all about taking action against the policies, the politics of the Republicans, The Party of Hate, Fear and Greed, and their enablers in the ‘Democrat’ Party who feed at the same corporate trough as BushCo. If you cannot:
Write a letter to your state or federal legislator…
Make a phone call to support progressive legislation to those same folks…
Work to elect progressive candidates by giving of your time and/or money…
Then this blog is not for you. As Thomas Jefferson said in the quote above you only matter if you participate, if you act. Recent surveys show that a significant percentage of Americans are ‘too busy’ to vote. I do not condemn them for their perspective they are under the mistaken impression that their vote does not matter. That’s what the corporate media and the Republican Party want them to believe and they spend millions of dollars to spread that message. This shows that voting, in fact, does matter. Quite a lot if you judge by what these folks are doing. If your reading this you, in theory, don’t feel that way.
Then there are those who are continually wringing their hands and whining about how the Republican Party and their corporate partners have engineered the theft of our election process. Certainly this has happened, and more than once, but just as in physics for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction elements of our side are educating and mobilising the citizenry to stop this. We have talked to many people who have attended our Drinking Liberally meetups who are working towards stopping this corporate assault on our political process. We can put you in touch with them. They need your help. You can act to stop this as opposed to just whine about it.
What they and we do not need is for you to imagine that ‘things will get better…’ if you fail to do what is every citizens duty: Participate in the political process.
We will be providing links to organizations we like, organizations which have a forceful progressive approach to politics and policy. We will be posting on issues and events with an emphasis on taking action. You may disagree with what we say. That is still your right as an American and we support that. That doesn’t mean we, especially me, won’t contest your ideas and beliefs with you. That’s called dialogue, something those outside the blogosphere have lost the knowledge of, that has been and remains the American way.
For over 2000 years dialogue between the citizenry, no matter what their status, has been the best way to form consensus. The best way for society to progress. I say it’s what the Founding Fathers had in mind when they invented our government. Long before Bush’s ascension to power this dynamic has been under assault by the rich and the privileged. Those we elect no longer listen to us, the people, they listen to those who fill their pockets with cash for cash has become the chief means to power in our society. With cash public opinion can be molded. The ‘Big Lie’ can be told over and over until people believe it.
With the rise of the netroots the opportunity now exists for the strangle hold on information which the corporate media has held for 40 years to be broken. Further, the mechanisms are being created to let every citizen to have a direct effect on the political process.
This blog is a tiny part of that growing revolution.
