Why is No One Talking About It?

January 10, 2007

Older men in this country are dying their hair in numbers I have never seen before. Usually it is easy (painfully, embarrassingly easy) to spot like in the example here of Bob Dole.

Why can’t men age gracefully anymore? What is this phenomenon all about? This is practically a pandemic, and I don’t like it one bit. I see it on the news daily and in the real world around me just about every day. I think I have noticed mostly Caucasian men doing this, but I have seen plenty of Asian men with an obvious dye-job too.

It looks unnatural, guys! Let your natural grey come through. It only indicates an experienced level of sagacity that comes with time and tribulations overcome.

Even more disturbing is the media’s total unwillingness to mention this phenomenon. I can’t even find commentary when I google “men dying hair”. But look around you. Once you become aware of this, you will see it everywhere you go. Then ask yourself: What the hell is going on here?!

Such obvious indications of denial do not foster a sense of confidence or gravitas. In my opinion, this is an indication of insecurity and intolerance. If you are an aging man, and you dye your hair to cover up your years, I have only this to say to you: “You are a disgrace and I cannot respect you. In fact, I can hardly pay attention to what you are saying, because I am so distracted by your utter contempt for nature. You sicken me. I don’t trust you. I don’t like you. Grow up.”
