It is called: The Future of Food.

Do I hear the ‘I’ word being whispered in the corridors of power?

March 6, 2007

Nay, and I’m not likely to with the likes of the ‘Spineless Dems’ led by Senate Majority Leader Harry ‘Liebermann’ Reid. But, my good friends and blogosphere neighbors there is much, much more to our nation than the fools, wankers and cowards who inhabit the corridors of power.

There are for example the good, and they are very good indeed, citizens of Vermont. Who today  voted in their town meetings to call for the impeachment of the criminal George W. Bush who now holds the office of President of the United States.

Here’s an excerpt from the excellent dKos diary which I just read and which I recommend your read in it’s entirety. For someone like me who has been talking impeachment for over four years this is great to see happening:

In Middlebury, where Gov. Jim Douglas, a Republican, is the town moderator voters approved both the impeachment and troop withdrawal measures. Douglas, ironically, was the chairman of Bush’s 2000 election committee and 2004 reelection committee in Vermont.

Ellen McKay, a backer of the impeachment measure, said some members of the Middlebury Selectboard and Douglas tried to limit debate to one minute per person. Douglas also questioned whether something that was not warned should warrant a vote.

“But, there were a lot of people in Middlebury who understood what other business was going to mean and this huge issue for our community,” said McKay, who says the Iraq War, proportionally, has cost Middlebury $8 million to fund the war.

In Jericho, home of Democratic House Speaker Gaye Symington, who is not supportive of the impeachment measure, voters approved the impeachment resolution 88-67, as well as the troop withdrawal measure.Fascinating the Democrats don’t seem to be getting it but the Republicans do…

Interesting times.

Update: If you live in Oakland, California you can join these Vermonters and petition the House of Representatives to Impeach Bush by cliking the button in the sidebar, upper right.

Hunter beat me to it!

March 6, 2007

Hunter has written the post I was thinking on…..

No matter he’s a great progressive and a very good writer indeed. Here’s a sample of today’s post titled Weeks not Months:

‘Let me try and make something clear to the Democratic members of the House and Senate. There’s a world of hurt coming your way, and time is running out.’

That’s exactly right. He goes on to say, bold by me, that:

‘Quit jockeying for position among yourselves. Quit expecting ultraconservative apologists to offer anything more than plans to get more people killed and call it "progress". Quit expecting anything but another two years of incompetent buffoonery from the Bush administration. Quit expecting bipartisanship. Quit expecting miracles that haven’t come for three years, and aren’t just over the horizon now. And quit expecting patience.’

My favorite part is near the end:

‘You have no idea how much raw fury there is out there, just under the surface. And all the "Democratic apologists" like me are on our very last ounce of patience, and all the grassroots supporters have torches lit and and at the ready, and all the Democrats and Republicans in your district are watching to see whether you’re really different from the Republicans or not, and all the troops in Iraq are waiting to see if you can provide an ounce of leadership.’

Go read the whole thing. It’s not just rant; there’s a whole raft of good ideas on how we can actually get out of the hole President Idiot has dug for us. Read it and stay tuned.

You see, I’m part of that mob pictured above and I’m gonna pitchfork me some ‘Spineless Dems’ right soon if’n they don’t git off their Armani suited asses.

Weeks, not months.

Libby found guilty on four counts (…so what)

March 6, 2007

In case you haven’t already heard, Irving Lewis “Scooter” Libby was pronounced guilty on four out of five counts by the jury at 12 Noon EST today. From the RawStory.com link provided above, the verdicts per charge are as follows:

  • Obstruction of Justice: GUILTY
  • False statements to FBI (Russert conversation): GUILTY
  • False statement to FBI (Cooper conversation): NOT GUILTY
  • Perjury to the Grand Jury (Russert conversation): GUILTY
  • Perjury to the Grand Jury (Cooper conversation): GUILTY

DKos blogger, Marcy offered the following updates from the courtroom:

  • Pre-sentence investigation will be conducted. Report due May 15.
  • Libby will need to make arrangements with probation department. [Court] will give counsel until May 25 dispute with probation.
  • Wells makes a formal motion to have appeal period extended.
  • Libby is sitting back from the table. ABSOLUTELY no reaction.

…whatever.

I simply cannot get excited about this verdict. For those of you that believe this will make a difference in the way our government is run, the manner in which our surreal foreign policy which is employed in our names, the circus which is our current domestic “security” environment, the integrity of our original “Constitution for the united states of America” and the Bill of Rights, and/or the quality of our lives…well, good luck.

Your Democratic Party “leadership” has not substantially changed the military course we are on in Afghanistan or Iraq, there is no indication they will hold anyone accountable for breaking international law by attacking these two countries in the first place. Nor have they shown any collective fortitude to take up the fight for my rights.

This trial has been theater, a sideshow, a farce.

I’ll say it again, “we need real leaders, and that means you and me.” Fortunately, there are a few rational people politics in Washington, but they are clearly the minority. This goes beyond the Sirota meme, which A.Citizen loves to trumpet: “The People Party” vs. “The Money Party.” We have to make more noise about more issues that we feel are important to us. We cannot continue to let politicians play us for fools, who will eat up the pablum they spoon feed us, while they greedily pocket lobbyist checks and corporate profits, without real oversight or approval.

Are you more prosperous, safer, better educated, in better health than a year ago, …a decade ago? …two decades? Do you feel comfortable saying what’s on your mind? How secure is your retirement? How much faith do you have in the public education system in your community? WHAT HAVE ANY YOUR REPRESENTATIVES DONE FOR YOU LATELY? This question stands for Democrats and Republicans, alike.

These are the things which are not being tended too, while we watch this play acting in Washington, D.C. which has nothing to do with you or me. Goddammit, these people need to do something for us, the American people. Stop playing politics like it’s an episode of “Survivor.” I don’t care who you throw off your little political island. These people are always given a friendly exit interview on the “news” or “punditry” show du jour and they always land on their feet, in corporate America.

Wes Clark calls for a Blogswarm!

March 6, 2007

Clik on the picture of the angry hornet to go to Wes Clark’s petition to stop ‘The Decider’ from plunging the Middle East into a raging inferno. It’s the best way to support the troops.

Do it now.

Okay Senator Clinton….Let’s talk!

March 6, 2007

Please start the conversation by explaining your yes vote on Bush’s AUMF for Iraq.

Then…

Tell us what you are doing right now to stop the brutal, illegal slaughter of Iraqis and American soldiers in Iraq.

I am eagerly awaiting your response.
