Madame Speaker Pelosi….

The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives said this of the President:

The President’s commutation of Scooter Libby’s prison sentence does not serve justice, condones criminal conduct, and is a betrayal of trust of the American people. The President said he would hold accountable anyone involved in the Valerie Plame leak case. By his action today, the President shows his word is not to be believed. He has abandoned all sense of fairness when it comes to justice, he has failed to uphold the rule of law, and he has failed to hold his Administration accountable.

Does this mean we can now ‘set the table… Madame Speaker? Or are you as morally bankrupt and as cowardly as you seem?

What say you fellow progressives. Do you want to tell the Speaker to Impeach the lawless little punk who’s been running roughshod over our values, our laws….

Our Nation?

If you do come to the next D/L Meeting.

I have a plan.

This is yet another outrage. Please share with us your plan to get impeachment going. Perhaps we can make this a national “drinking liberally” effort. There are now 11 members of congress behind H.Res. 333. Now is the time to push HARD on this resolution. I have a live chart here showing that interest in a Cheney impeachment is definitely growing again…

I think the key is Pelosi, but also CongressmanJohn Conyers.
A while back, Conyers introduced HR 635 to create a committee with subpoena authority to investigate the misconduct of the Bush admin regarding Iraq and report on possible impeachable offenses.

He got 39 co-sponsors for that bill. For a while, Conyers was THE MAN. But many seem to think Conyers did not re-file his bill out of respect to Pelosi, and his desire to be appointed Chair of the Judiciary Committee. Well now he’s the Chair. And that commitee is exactly where 333 now sits. We need Conyers to move it out onto the floor. Not sure of the process, but I think he could do it without Pelosi.

I’m thinking firstly, one-by one, we need to get every one of those 39 sponsors of 635 to back 333. How can they not? Clearly an investigation is needed more now than ever. Then perhaps we go on the offensive with Conyers.

This administration is refusing subpoenas, and deleting documents. 333 is the ONLY way to investigate. We need complete information regarding the damage they’ve done to our democracy, or it will be impossible for any future administration, Democratic or Republican, to rebuild a credible and functioning government, and impossible to prevent future administrations from similar abuses of power.

Every member of congress will admit that Cheney’s actions merit impeachment. They just are hesitating due to their fears, and for their misguided strategic/ political reasons, and they should be called on that. But the American public has always rewarded bold action and integrity with support (parties have historically gained support when they impeach) and they have a constitutional obligation to impeach.

    impeachment = investigation

You make some very good arguments. I agree impeachment=investigation….

But I’d like to see Pelosi start to build support for what has now become urgent and imperative:

I plan to create a postard with Pelosi, Conyers and the Judiciary Committee’s phone number on it. There will be wording such as this:

‘I pledge to call one of these members of Congress every week until George W. Bush is gone.’

There will be a place for the person to sign. They will then take the card home and start calling.

I believe if enough people call consistently for a long enough time that the message will get through.

Bush must be brought to account for his lawless behavior.
